Imagine you are on vaccation and of course during this time your automower at home is working hard... Therefore you may want to have a look at what it is doing: how is the temperature , the voltage of the battery and so on. You may also give an order to the robot in order to force the return at home to the basestation because for example you know that in the next coming days the weather is too bad or too hot for him to work!
Today you can easily connect to the internet from almost everywhere through a simple web browser, so it seems natural to control the robot through this universal interface.
The good news is that it is now possible! You can control the robot from all computer through a very simple web interface:
Just click on the buttons and read the robots answer at the bottom of the small screen: here before you can read the Voltage of the battery, 19713mV. But just watch following video to see also the speed reaction:
The better news is that this web interface is so universal, that you can also control the robot from your smartphone! Pocket PC under windows, Iphone, Ipad, Blackberry...whatever you have as smartphone, it will work, you can control your animal even from the beach! See hereafter a demo using a Loox PDA:
So now let's see what you need in order to control the robot with with web interface:
- you need a small fonera router embedded inside the robot and specially programmed in order to interract with the serial interface , see Wlan module for more information.
- and...that's all! There is NO need to have a other continously running machine.
In fact the web server that connects with your browser is embedded inside the small fonera router! It is absolutely amazing what this small piece of hardware that consumes only 2W can perform!
